Mr. Janusz Bugajski is the Director of the New European Democracies Project and Senior Fellow in the Europe Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC. He has served as a consultant for the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Agency for International Development, the International Research and Exchanges Board, and several private organizations and foundations. He has lectured at the Smithsonian Institution, the Woodrow Wilson Center, the National Defense University, and at numerous American universities. Mr. Bugajski runs the South-Central Europe area studies program at the Foreign Service Institute, U.S. Department of State. He has testified before various Congressional committees. Mr. Bugajski is the author of America’s Atlantic Bridges: America’s New European Allies with Ilona Teleki (Rowman & Littlefield, 2007), Cold Peace: Russia’s New Imperialism (Praeger/Greenwood, 2004), Political Parties of Eastern Europe: A Guide to Politics in the Post-Communist Era (M. E. Sharpe, March 2002), and is the editor of Toward an Understanding of Russia: New European Perspectives (New York: Council on Foreign Relations, 2002). He is a regular contributor to various U.S. and European newspapers, publishes in international journals, and is a columnist for several Central-East European newspapers, including Nacional in Croatia, Koha Ditore in Kosova, Albania in Albania, and Kapital and Trud in Bulgaria. He maintains professional contacts with research institutions throughout the region.
