LTC Ernest A. Szabo is the Deputy Director of Academic Engagement within the Strategic Studies Institute, United States Army War College , Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. He is recently returned from a deployment to Afghanistan where he served as Team Leader for Afghan National Army, within the CJ-5 of NATO Training Mission Afghanistan. He is a graduate from the State University of New York at Oswego where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration. LTC Szabo’s formal education includes Masters Degrees in Military Arts and Science from the U.S. Army War College, Advanced Military Studies from the US Army Command and General Staff College, and Education from Canisius College. His military education includes the Armor Officer’s Basic and Advanced Courses, US Army Command and General Staff College, the School of Advanced Military Studies and the US Army War College. LTC Szabo has served as a Strategic Plans and Policy Analyst with NATO Training Mission -Afghanistan, US European Command in Stuttgart Germany, Director of the Basic Strategic Art Program at the US Army War College, and CJ-35 US Central Command Forward in Doha, Qatar. Prior to becoming a FA 59, LTC Szabo served in Armor and Cavalry assignments in the U.S., Germany, Kuwait and Iraq during Operations Desert Shield/Desert Storm. His decorations include the Silver Star and the Defense Meritorious Service Medal.
