U.S. Marine Corps Lieutenant Colonel Stephen D. Sklenka is the Commandant of the Marine Corps Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS). He is a logistics officer and a Marine Air-Ground Task Force planner. Lieutenant Colonel Sklenka was deployed in Operation JUST CAUSE in Panama, Marine Detachment UNITAS in South America, Operations DESERT SHIELD/DESERT STORM in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, Operation RESTORE HOPE in Somalia, various exercises throughout southwest Asia and South Korea, Operation IRAQI FREEDOM, and Joint Task Force (JTF)-Katrina on the U.S Gulf Coast. He has commanded three companies, served as a regimental logistics officer, and worked at Headquarters Marine Corps in the Plans, Policies, and Operations Branch. Most recently, Lieutenant Colonel Sklenka commanded Marine Service Support Group (MSSG)-11 where he deployed with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (Special Operations Capable) to the U.S. Gulf Coast in support of JTF-Katrina and with the 11th MEU (SOC) to the Pacific and Central Combatant Command regions. His next assignment is with the J-4 Plans of U.S. Special Operations Command. Lieutenant Colonel Sklenka graduated from the Amphibious Warfare School, Quantico, VA; and has a B.S. in history from the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, MD; an M.A. in national security and strategic studies from the Naval Command and Staff College at the Naval War College, Newport, RI; and completed the Air War College Non-Resident Program.
