In February, Dr. Andrew Terrill published two book reviews. His review of Jack O'Connell's, King's Council: A Memoir of War, Espionage, and Diplomacy, was published in the Winter 2012 edition of Middle East Journal. Dr. Terrill's review of Regime and Periphery in Northern Yemen: The Huthi Phenomenon by Barak A. Salmoni, Bryce Loidolt, and Madeleine Wells appeared in Parameters, Volume 41.
On February 20, Dr. Stephen Blank delivered a speech on Russia's approach to National and International
Security to the Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House, London. On February 22-24, Dr. Blank delivered a paper on Russian COIN Strategy in North Caucasus and Chechnya to the conference, "COIN - Past, Present and Future," held at the Begin-Sadat
Centre for Strategic Affairs, Bar-Ilan University in Ramat Gan, Israel.
On February 18, SSI supported the National Bureau of Asian Research's workshop on
the study of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) at the Marine Corps
University, Quantico, Virginia.
On February 17, SSI, the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR), and the RAND
Corporation officially released Chinese Lessons from Other Peoples' Wars at the RAND Headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. The most significant papers were briefed to Pacific Command senior leaders in February 2011.
On February 8, Dr. John Deni spoke at a roundtable, "America's Role in Shaping European Defense Reform," at the Egmont Institute (the Royal [Belgian] Institute for International Relations) in Brussels, Belgium.
On January 30, World Politics Review published Dr. Steven Metz's op-ed, "To Maintain U.S. Primacy, Standoff Power is not Enough."
On January 30, COL Louis Jordan was a panelist at Columbia University's School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) discussing the opium trade problem in Afghanistan and its effects on the stability of the Afghan Government and about the future of Afghanistan after 2014.
