The North Caucasus Insurgency: Dead or Alive? Authored by Dr. Emil Aslan Souleimanov.
View the Executive Summary

Combining analysis of the structural and up-to-date sources of the ongoing insurgency in Russia's North Caucasus, this monograph illustrates that despite their substantial weakening in the recent years, locally operating Salafi-jihadist groups are still alive and likely to remain so in the years to come. The monograph also emphasizes the salience of the local socio-cultural codes—retaliation, hospitality, and silence—that have provided, harsh reprisals notwithstanding, for pro-insurgent violent mobilization and local support.

Emerging Powers and Future Threats: Implications for the U.S. and Global Defense Industry. Authored by Dr. Terrence R. Guay.
View the Executive Summary

This Letort Paper examines the defense industrial bases of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa (BRICS), and Turkey, and the economic, political, and social factors that will influence their development in the coming years. In light of events in these countries and the structure of the global arms production and trade, four recommendations are made to maintain the national security interests of the United States.
